Bio
Gabrielle Côté-Picard has a large and shimmering voice that captivates listeners with an emotional connection, which commands attention going beyond the music and gives voice to the political injustice present in what she sings. Gabrielle is a French-Canadian Innu (Montagnais Naskapi) soprano based in Montreal. She holds a graduate diploma in vocal performance and recently completed a Master’s degree in Opera and Voice with voice teacher Annamaria Popescu, at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University. Gabrielle has performed the roles of Fiordiligi in Uottawa's 2020 production of Cosi fan tutte, Mrs. Grose with Opera McGill in 2021 and Zerlina in Opera McGill's 2022 production of Don Giovanni. Gabrielle has also performed with Highlands Opera Studio last summer and worked with Confluence Concerts in Toronto. She is currently working on upcoming indigenous related music projects as well as participating in Manitoba Opera's Digital Emerging Artist Program this August.
Gabrielle holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Ottawa in music with a profile in vocal performance, where she studied with voice teacher Christiane Riel, during which she worked as a page for the House of Commons as well as assistant to the Dominion Carillonneur, Dr. Andrea McCrady, of the Parliament of Canada. During her undergraduate studies she was also selected to participate in Equal Voice's 1st Daughters of the Vote event in 2017 where she represented her district in the House of Commons. In her concert performances, Gabrielle prefers to perform repertoire relating to current societal and political issues and brings forward the emotional turmoil of each character she portrays. Her passions include spreading awareness on indigenous issues in Canada, bringing music to all ages, the de-stigmatization of mental health and encouraging youth and women in political engagement.
